On Tuesday, 10 November 2026, from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m., Friends of the Earth Malta will host the local co-design workshop for CROSS-HERITAGE – Cross-Border Heritage Valorisation for Sustainable Tourism. The project is co-funded by the European Union under the INTERREG Italy–Malta VI-A 2021–2027 programme, whose Managing Authority is the Sicilian Region. Fondazione Messina is the project’s lead partner. The Cross Heritage partners are Fondazione Horcynus Orca in Sicily, MRDDf (Malta Regional Development and Dialogue Foundation) and FoEM (Friends of the Earth Malta) in Malta.
CROSS-HERITAGE aims to strengthen two interconnected, inclusive and learning-oriented tourism destinations: Horcynus Orca Park in Capo Peloro, Sicily and Il-Forn ta’ Kemmuna in the inland area of Comino, Malta. The two sites will be connected through a shared model for enhancing their ecological, cultural and gastronomic heritage.
FoEM is working towards revitalising this historic site by transforming it into a learning-oriented heritage hub, bringing together a social bakery and an Interactive Education Hub, while ensuring the protection and conservation of the Natura 2000 landscape on Comino. The workshop on 10 November will take place at the offices of Friends of the Earth Malta in Floriana. It is intended for local stakeholders, organisations and groups in Malta interested in opportunities for the site and practical solutions to support its future use and long-term care.
Local stakeholders, cultural and promotional associations, small businesses, accommodation providers, businesses and tourism operators have been invited to share local needs and perspectives. These contributions will inform the development of new tourism services and learning experiences for Il-Forn ta’ Kemmuna throughout the project. The workshop will provide an important opportunity to share knowledge, experience and proposals, contributing to a co-design process rooted in the area’s values.
A similar process is also underway in Sicily, led by project partners Fondazione Messina and Fondazione Horcynus Orca.
